How to Install APEXFILES Desktop App

Thank you for downloading the APEXFILES Desktop App! Since we are a non-profit organization providing these powerful tools completely free of charge, you may encounter a standard Windows security warning during installation. Follow the simple steps below to safely run the application.

Video Guide: How to Download and Install

Step 1: Download & Extract

Because the application relies on an internal browser engine to process your heavy files offline, it comes packaged inside a .zip file.

  1. Click the download link to save APEXFILES-Desktop.zip to your computer.
  2. Important: Do not just double-click to open it! You must Right-Click the downloaded file and select "Extract All..."
  3. Choose a location (like your Desktop or Documents folder) and click Extract.

Step 2: The "Blue Screen" Warning

Why does Windows show a warning?

When you run the extracted APEXFILES.exe for the first time, you will likely see a blue "Windows protected your PC" popup.

Microsoft requires developers to purchase an expensive "Code Signing Certificate" (costing hundreds of dollars per year) to stop this warning. Because APEXFILES is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing you with a 100% free service, we do not purchase this corporate certificate. Windows simply shows this warning for any new, free software downloaded from the internet.

Step 3: How to Safely Run the App

It is very easy to bypass this warning and safely run your application. You only have to do this once!

Method A: The Quick Way

  1. When the blue SmartScreen popup appears, click the underlined text that says "More info".
  2. A new button will appear at the bottom right. Click "Run anyway".
  3. The app will launch perfectly!

Method B: Unblock the File

  1. Before extracting, right-click the .zip file and select Properties.
  2. At the bottom of the General tab, check the box that says "Unblock".
  3. Click Apply, then OK. Now extract the folder and run it normally!

You can now right-click APEXFILES.exe and select "Send to" > "Desktop (create shortcut)" for easy access!
